Preparation

Friday 19th June

3 weeks to go until the start of the ride – Peter claims to be swimming 2KM per day and doing plenty of ‘leg exercises’ – whatever ‘leg exercises’ means!!

Organisation of the ride beginning to peak – checking of overnight stops & making up route cards.

Denis is also preparing, final touches to his bike and this weekend the brothers will get their heads together to see if they have missed anything.

The tents have been out and checked.

Click here for some photos of Peter and Denis from their younger days – you have been warned!!

Friday 26th June

Preparation nearly complete – well not really – Peter and Denis are just trying to convince themselves that it is!

From Peter:

I've started to sleep worry now, I wake up thinking have I done this and that, I feel now everything is done, this weekend is fitting the new tyres and test packing the bike.

The bike is going to be fully serviced at Destination Triumph on Thursday, don't expect any problems !!

Tuesday 30th June

3 days to go, Peter and Denis claim to be fully prepared – watch this space!!

According to Peter:

...double checked everything, maps, lights all the bags are packed and we tested the bike fully loaded...

Only time will tell!

Amount pledged – £1200 – £200 over target.

Peter is now realising the amount of effort to organise the event but Peter and Denis are enjoying it:

...the help I have received can never be under estimated and I want to send my sincere thanks to every body who has contributed to the trip taking place...

Peter and Dennis will be taking Thursday and Friday off to:

...sit down and have a relax, hopefully in the garden and take some rays...

The ‘clever money’ is betting that their will be a last minute panic, any suggestions as to what Peter will have forgotten? Answers in an email to Peter at:

Friday 3rd July

The ‘Round the Outside’ mascot revealed!!

Peter revealed the ‘Round the Outside’ mascot today – Eric the long tailed lemur or, as Peter likes to call him, Eric the Route Master; Eric is pictured below.

Makes you wonder – Peter is a grown man and he still has soft toys to keep him company!!

Peter and ‘Eric’ the long-tailed Lemur.

Eric has a history with Peter. Eric has been with Peter since 1980 and has travelled with Peter all over Europe.

Eric has had a troubled life having been kidnapped and taken to Australia, Canada, USA and France.

Eric was also held to ransom by Peter’s colleges for a period of time until Peter paid the ransom.

Remember this is a grown man talking:

Well he's coming with me and will appear in many photos en route, he has his T-shirt and is packed.

Back on planet earth, Destination Triumph have serviced Peter’s motorbike and let him have use of a scrambler motorbike whilst the bike was serviced. Peter has also had his picture taken by the Brighton Argus, the picture should be in the newspaper on Saturday.

On Peter’s final day of rest before the motorbike ride he will be watching ‘The Great Escape’ – let’s hope that Peter doesn’t get shot when he returns!!

The Motorbike Ride

Day 1 – Saturday 4th July

Peter’s update for Saturday 4th July:

Weather was wonderful, gloriously hot!

Fantastic journey down to Brighton to have a good cooked breakfast. Then we were met at the end of the pier by Laura Williams of  ‘Help for Heroes’ who gave a lovely speech to a group of about 25 people mostly our friends (included a group photo at the end of the pier), and we left the pier at precisely 10am.

We then travelled via the south coast in very heavy traffic due to the weather and arrived at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne (Kent) to meet up with some friends in the Police motorcycle club ’The Blue Knights’.

We have done approx 250 miles today and now settling down to a good nights sleep and another cooked breakfast in the morning before setting off for Essex, Norfolk and Lincolnshire.
